Breaking news: Everyone has skin. And some people like when that skin looks nice, regardless of their gender, and that's why they go out of their way to make it gleam, glow, and look lit-from-within.
Skin-care Twitter is its own beast, and last Thursday night, stylist and content creator Emeka "Soouizz" Okeke had one simple request for all the Black men on the Internet: "Let’s start a thread of black men doing skincare here pls"
And boy, did they come through, taking selfies with their sheet masks, serums, facial sprays, you name it. The fellas were showing us the very best of their routines, and we nearly passed out from the glow factor. See for yourself, below.
Is there nothing better than seeing men challenge traditional masculinity standards and prove that damn taking care of yourself has nothing to do with your "manliness" or your sexuality? Black men are often imposed with traditional, nearly unattainable standards for masculinity, and it's refreshing to see them prioritize skin care, as those with the time and access should.
A little self-care means that you know your self-worth because if you take care of yourself, you're putting your best self out there. Take notes and learn from what people are recommending on the thread (and consult a dermatologist, obviously), take in some eye-candy, and listen to national treasures Donna Meagle and Tom Haverford when they say, "Treat yourself."
Cheers to taking care of your skin.
