Former “Bachelorette” star Ali Fedotowsky-Manno on Friday urged fans to get their skin checked after receiving her own skin cancer diagnosis.
The 35-year-old mother and former ABC reality star took to Instagram to share an update with her 815,000 followers and encourage them to visit a dermatologist every year.
“A couple weeks ago I found out I have skin cancer,” she wrote. “When my dermatologist used the c-word, I just about fainted in his office. Thankfully, the type of skin cancer I have is rarely fatal and really never fatal when you catch it early.”

Pictures showed the basal cell carcinoma mole before and after she had a biopsy done on the left side of her stomach. She also revealed that she had another patch of skin removed six months prior that may have also been cancerous.
“Needless to say, i’m never exposing my stomach to sun without sunscreen again!” Fedotowsky-Manno wrote.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer and is the most frequently occurring form of all cancers, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. There are roughly 4 million cases diagnosed each year in the United States. People are encouraged to look our for any new, changing or unusual skin growths.

Fedotowsky-Manno wrote that while it a common disease that rarely ends up being fatal, early detection and treatment is vital.
“The VERY first thing I did when I got diagnosed was text my family on a group text urging them all to get their skin checked,” the television star wrote. “So I’m doing the same for all of you, my extended family, right here and right now.”
After appearing on the 14th season of the megahit dating show “The Bachelor,” Fedotowsky-Manno became the show’s sixth ever female “Bachelorette.” She currently runs a blog about fashion and motherhood.
"I’m lucky it wasn’t melanoma," she wrote in the caption. "And I’m lucky that I caught it early. Moving forward I plan on making it a priority of mine to use the best natural products on my skin and be rigorous about applying sunscreen and reminding all of you to do the same! I love you guys! Take care of yourselves!"
